Traditions, Landscape and Nature

Do not miss the region, extremely varied and rich in its traditions, landscape, flora and fauna.
In the middle of the countryside, next to the “Campos do Vouga” (river), Quinta da Fontoura is located in a privileged place, with diverse landscapes around it: The mountain environment, inland, with its granite constructions and the Vouga valley; very close, extends to the Ria de Aveiro a lagoon of salt water with an enormous biodiversity. For the coast, there is the City of Aveiro and its beaches of dunes and white sand. To the south, also a few kilometers, rises the magnificent Serra do Bussaco.
About 50km is located: to the north the city of Porto, to the south the city of Coimbra and to the interior the city of Viseu.

Bird watching – Bioria

The Ria de Aveiro constitutes one of the most important and beautiful geographical accidents of the Portuguese coast, result of the retreat of the sea, from the XVI century. There are eleven thousand hectares of which six are permanently flooded. The biodiversity is enormous, with about 180 species of birds that can be observed in this ecosystem.


Eco Course of Sever do Vouga

A few kilometers from the Quinta, there is the ecopist of the Vouga Valley, a cyclopedonal track built along the route of the old train line of the Vouga. The route crosses 5 tunnels and a century-old bridge, the Poço de Santiago Bridge, a monumental bridge that is a symbol of the identity of the entire region. Enjoy the spectacular scenery of the Vouga River Valley, along the entire ecopist. There are a series of pedestrian and cycle routes for direct contact with the nature and observation of these birds.


Beaches and Ria de Aveiro

Just 15 km from Quinta da Fontoura, the city of Aveiro is a must-see destination among places to visit. District Capital, enchants with its canals furrowed by the typical Moliceiros boats and its beautiful new art buildings. The visit is not complete without passing through the beaches of Aveiro, particularly the Costa Nova Beach, located between the estuary and the sea, with its notorious colored striped houses, which the locals call Palheiros.


Serra do Bussaco

In the Serra do Bussaco we can find a stunning national forest, with 105 ha, 5 km of perimeter and 700 species of exotic and native trees. The first trees were planted in 1630 by the religious order of the Discalced Carmelites. At the top of the forest you can also visit the old Convent of Santa Cruz and the Royal Palace, now converted into a hotel.
